About me

I am Anne Mendez and I have been blogging book reviews since 2009. I have a passion for reading, writing, and collecting beautiful book editions.

I mostly review books in the historical fiction genre, including the sub-genres within historical fiction (mystery, thriller, romance etc). I also review more contemporary mysteries/thrillers.

The Lit Bitch is a dedicated spot for all bookish things including merchandise, author interview, giveaways and special features, but the main focus is book reviews.

At The Lit Bitch, you will find multiple book reviews weekly as well as special features, giveaways, bookish product reviews, and cover reveals all written by me.

This website has undergone a rebranding in 2019 to become a more streamline and professional spot for book reviews. I am continuing to grow my brand and you will see some changes coming over the course of the next few months as I begin to phase out the older content.
This page began as a place where I could document my travels and track some of the books I had read, now it has become a hub for book reviews, bookish merch product reviews, author interviews, special features and giveaways.
I have worked with a number of larger publishers including Penguin, Penguin Random House, St Martin’s Press, Simon and Schuster,  and Kensington Publishing to name a few. I have also worked with our companies such as Historical Fiction Virtual Book Tours and TLC Book Tours, and recently been appointed part of the Tall Poppy Writers blog team.
I have a large social media presence and highly suggest following me on any of my social media platforms to stay up to date with all the latest happenings on The Lit Bitch. I am most active on Instagram and Twitter.
If you would like to work with me, please read my review policy page here.
I hope you enjoy my blog and as always, you are welcome to get in contact with me via email thelitbitch@me.com

  1. Your blog looks amazing! If you don’t mind me asking, how did you customise it like this? I have to do an assignment (like making a blog) for one of my classes at uni and while I’m really not keen on the fact, I really want a good one to start on as my theme is going to be books, reading etc etc and at the moment I really have no idea what I’m doing in terms of blogging, are you using a particular blogging site or did you create this yourself? Either way, it looks awesome and I really enjoy all your entries 🙂

    1. Hi there, thanks for the blog loving :). I run my blog from WordPress (the self hosted version) and as much as I would love to take the design credit, I can’t. A fellow blogger (Parajunkee of Parajunkee Designs http://www.parajunkeedesign.com/) designed my header and avatar. The background, colors, tabs, and side bars/menus are all templates from one of the layouts free on WordPress. The content, name, pictures, and topics/posts I CAN claim credit for though :). Once you get you blog up and running let me know and I can link back to it here on my blog :). Good luck to you and thanks again for the compliments, I am glad you enjoy the blog!! 🙂 Cheers!!

  2. Right after I signed up with your page, I got a FB friend request from Francoise Lavergne. I don’t recognize the name and the only clue was that she listed an interest in Diana Gabaldon. So – could Francoise possibly be you?

  3. I love your blog and follow you, I’m really passionate about books and read faster than I can review. I’ve been told by many blog friends that I should only do reviews and look for authors to interview or review for up and coming authors, which I am already doing. This is purely for enjoyment but then I got to thinking … I wonder if there is more to it?
Would love to know what you think?

    1. First of all thank you for the lovely compliments and for following my blog :). That’s kind of how I started….I started just reviewing books that I happened to be reading at the time simply because I wanted to remember what I liked and what I didn’t plus it was fun sharing my thoughts and opinions with other readers and book fans :). Then I started getting approached by Indi authors to review their books which I was and am still glad to do if the books was something that I sounded interested in. Gradually I started doing interview and guest posts etc then I started getting publishers asking if I wanted to do reviews etc which is mostly what I do now. Over the years I’ve been able to become more and more selective about the books and genres I review. I still only accept books that capture my interest regardless if its from a publisher or an Indi author. I haven’t really had to go out and hunt for people who want me to review their books, every book I’ve reviewed for an author or publisher, I have been asked if I would like to review the book in exchange for an honest review. I do still read books on my own that I’ve had on my TBR list etc but I absolutely love reviewing new books….there is nothing like discovering the next best thing before anyone else :). Book review is awesome….put yourself out there on social media and let people know that you are open to reviewing their books. You can always pass or say no if it’s not something you are interested in 🙂 Good luck, let me know how it goes for you! Cheers 🙂
