Review: The Woman in the Mirror by Rebecca James

By all accounts this book was practically guaranteed a five star review. It had all the things I love in a Gothic tale…..the wild Cornish coast with foggy/misty mornings, a broken hero, a dark secret, an innocent but curious heroine, and so much atmosphere.

It sounded like a modern Victoria Holt novel and I just couldn’t wait to crack it open! I have read only one other book by this author, Sweet Damages, but it was so long ago that I read it, that I can’t quite recall all the details but I remember that it was more of a modern Gothic tale.

This book mixes modern Gothic with classical Gothic in the duel storylines so I think it will appeal to a lot of readers, especially if you love the Gothic and ghosts! Continue reading “Review: The Woman in the Mirror by Rebecca James”

Her first marriage was an epic fail.

Lady Avalon Warwyk never did love her husband. Arrogant, selfish, and cruel, it’s a blessing when she’s widowed and left to raise her son all by herself. Finally, Avalon can live freely and do the work she loves: helping fallen women become businesswomen. She’s lived these past ten years with no desire to remarry―that is, until Mr. Devan Farris comes to town.

Can he convince her to take another chance at happily ever after?

Devan Farris―charming vicar, reputed rake, and the brother of Avalon’s son’s guardian―is reluctantly sent to town to keep tabs on Avalon and her son. Devan wishes he didn’t have to meddle in her affairs; he’s not one to trod on a woman’s independent nature and keen sense of convictions. But she’ll have nothing to do with vicar with a wild reputation―even though he’s never given his heart and body to another. If only he could find a way to show Avalon who he really is on the inside―a good, true soul looking for its other half. But how can prove that he wants to love and care for her…until death do they part?

Review: Above the Bay of Angels by Rhys Bowen (Audible Edition)

I have been a long time fan of Rhys Bowen, especially her Royal Spyness series, but I also love many of her stand alone novels as well.

When I saw this one was coming out, I almost put it on preorder until I saw that it was going to be an Audible Escape option. As a subscriber to Audible Escape, that means I get to read any of the romances that are marked as Escape in their catalogue. This book was one of them.

I started it and was ready for it to be full of romance….I mean, it’s in the romance catalogue after all so I went into it expecting romance, but what I got was more of a romance with food. Continue reading “Review: Above the Bay of Angels by Rhys Bowen (Audible Edition)”

Guest Post: A Flame Through Eternity (The Wanderer #3) by Anna Belfrage

Anna Belfrage is an author who continues to pop up on my radar on a fairly regular basis. She’s a prolific historical fiction writer and boasts three successful series to her name!

I am so excited about sharing a lovely guest post from her here on my blog today and also share a little bit about her upcoming release. The Wanderer series is wrapping up here with the third book which is out now! So be sure to pop by and take a look at the summary for this lovely conclusion!

Today though, Anna Belfrage talks a bit about writing and writing what you love. This piece really resonated with me because I myself am a writer and I big fan of romances. I adore Belfrage’s candor and truth in this piece and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did! Continue reading “Guest Post: A Flame Through Eternity (The Wanderer #3) by Anna Belfrage”
