Review: Silence for the Dead by Simone St James
Where was this book a few years ago when I watched Crimson Peak and was dying for a book similar?! If you saw Crimson Peak and loved it, then I think you will really enjoy this book. One of the things that I liked about that film was how the house and ghosts both haunted the characters and this book does something similar and the effect is memorable and so wonderfully suspenseful! This is my final Simone St James book and I really wanted to end her books on a high note, and that’s exactly what I did. I think this one was one of my favorites by her! In…

Review: Mumpreneur on Fire Vol 2 by Estelle Keeber
Earlier this year I was fortunate enough to read and review Mumpreneur on Fire by Estelle Keeber. I first met the Mums In Business Association on Instagram and I love all the things they do to help support working mothers. The first book was an Amazon best seller which is pretty incredible! I was thrilled when they asked if I wanted to read the upcoming installment of Mumpreneur on Fire Vol 2. I was happy to review it because each of the stories are so powerful and inspiring. This book is similar in format to the first volume–a number of women each telling their story about how they got into business…

Review: The Other Side of Midnight by Simone St James
Yes, yet another Simone St James book. When I find an author I like, sometimes I binge read if my schedule allows it and in this case it did. I had surgery on my ankle four weeks ago and have had more than enough time to read and read and read. I am winding down in my St James binge read-a-thon though. I had two books left, this one and Silence for the Dead. I wanted to end my binge with a really good one so I had to decide which one to read first since both sounded interesting. The Other Side of Midnight had a similar ratings on Goodreads…

Review: The Lucky Ones by Tiffany Reisz
After binge reading all of Simone St James’s books, I was eager to read another gothic style, romantics suspense/thriller. This one was coming up on my review calendar and I was super excited to check it out since it was tagged as ‘romantic suspense’ on Goodreads. The summary hints at so many promising pieces of the plot…..past secrets, romance, and thrills. Plus it’s set on the Oregon coast, as an Oregonian how could I possibly pass up a book set in my home state? They were seven children either orphaned or abandoned by their parents and chosen by legendary philanthropist and brain surgeon Dr. Vincent Capello to live in The…

Review: An Inquiry Into Love and Death by Simone St James
Many of you have noticed that I recently became completely obsessed with Simone St James’s novels. I started off with The Broken Girls (her latest novel out in March) and I was completely hooked on her writing style and plots. I ordered all of her books from my library and haven’t looked back. I’ve shamelessly read them all in the matter of days. Some are better than others naturally but all have an interesting plot angles and intriguing mysteries, ghosts, and romances. This book was actually on my radar well before I started reading her works. I love gothic novels, specifically Victoria Holt. This book came up on my Goodreads…

Review: The Storm King by Brendan Duffy
Sometimes you pick up a book and you have zero idea what it’s about. That’s what happened to me with this book. When this book came up for review, I got the pitch at the same time as I got the pitch for The Pearl Sister. For some reason, my brain combined the two books and I said yes to both of them. The title of this book sounded romantic and like it would be in the same vein as The Pearl Sister so why not read that one too. Then The Storm King book arrived in my mailbox and I vaguely remembered agreeing to read it, having already read…

Review: Lost Among the Living by Simone St James
After finishing two of Simone St James novels in less than a week, I was thrilled when this one came into the library and was waiting patiently in the holds section for me to pick up. I had read a lot of great reviews for this book and was eager to see what kind of ghost and romance this story would hold. It sounded a little different than The Haunting of Maddy Clare but still within the same wheelhouse of that style, so I was intrigued. England, 1921. Three years after her husband, Alex, disappeared, shot down over Germany, Jo Manders still mourns his loss. Working as a paid companion…

Review: The Secret Life of Mrs. London by Rebecca Rosenberg
Sometimes I have a feeling about a book and where it might fall on my own reviewer scale, even before I pick it up and start reading. This was one of those books. I thought it would be a book that was good but not great. Sometimes fictionalized accounts of historical figures lives can go very right or very wrong. I am not a big Jack London fan or a Harry Houdini fan….so I was ready to put this book firmly in the three star category before I even started the first page. San Francisco, 1915. As America teeters on the brink of world war, Charmian and her husband, famed…
