• Review: The Victory Garden by Rhys Bowen

I stopped reading the review pitch once I saw ‘WWI’ in the description, which was basically the first line in the summary. I have read a lot of stand alone novels by Bowen and have been impressed with her writing and historical research. Her stand alone books have mostly been set in WWII, but WWI is truly my favorite period in historical fiction, so seeing that this book was set during that time earned this book and instant and enthusiastic, ‘yes’ from me. I have consistently enjoyed reading Bowen’s books, whether they are one of her historical mysteries or her stand alone novels. She as an incredible gift for writing…

  • Review: A Class Entwined (A Matter of Class, #2) by Susie Murphy

I read the first book in this series about a year ago and thought that it was a decent start to a new series. I mentioned in my first review, that I haven’t read a lot of works published by smaller publishing companies or indie publishers in recent years. But I don’t mind reading them when I can because I like being able to offer not only constructive criticism, but I also enjoy reading books like this that fly under the radar. When this second book in the series came up for review, the author asked if I would like to review it and I was happy to agree so…

  • Review: Love Poems for Married People by John Kenney

Poetry isn’t really my genre. Something about it always makes me feel so inadequate and most of it just seems to go over my head. I do have a few poems (and when I say a few I mean like 4) that I like but by and large, poetry just isn’t for me. This book showed up for review about three weeks ago and the minute I tore it open, I was literally laughing so hard. The poems in this book are perfect for married couples. If you have been married—even for a couple of months—this book will resonate with you. I have been married for fifteen years and we…

  • Review: The Best of Us (Sullivan’s Crossing #4) by Robyn Carr

I’ve only recently discovered Robyn Carr but she has written an impressive amount of novels in her career. I have seen her books randomly, usually at airport bookstores or in the supermarket book displays. Like many of her fans, I love a good romance and often a well written romance is such a refreshing break from real life when you get home and dinner still needs to be made and the baby is crying and your husband is late from work. Those are the times that a good romance are especially welcoming which is why I think I see her books (as well as others) at the supermarket checkout stand…

  • Review: One Day in December by Josie Silver

One of my absolute favorite holiday movie is Love Actually. I watch it every year and it never gets old no matter how cheesy and unrealistic is it. My favorite couple David (Hugh Grant) and Natalie (Martine McCutcheon) followed closely by Juliet (Kira Knightly) and Mark (Andrew Lincoln). So when I saw this book so heavily compared to Love Actually and the Juliet/Mark couple, I was eager to read it. It was my December Book of the Month pick and truth be told I almost passed on all the books for December on BOTM but, I saw so many excellent reviews about this one and decided at the last minute…..why…

  • Review: The Spectral City (Spectral City #1) by Leanna Renee Hieber

I discovered Leanna Renee Hieber way back in 2011 when I read one of her early books. I saw it in a local used book store and randomly picked it up. When I got home I started reading and couldn’t put it down. I loved the romance and the paranormal and her overall storytelling and because of that first book in the Strangely Beautiful series, I fell in love with this author. She writes a spicy romance with great brooding heroes so I was thrilled to read this new book. Her name is Eve Whitby, gifted medium and spearhead of The Ghost Precinct. When most women are traveling in a…
