Special Feature: House of Correction by Nicci French
I have really enjoyed the Frida Klein books by Nicci French and some of French’s standalone mysteries are wonderful reads too. This latest novel is a standalone mystery that promises dark twists. This one sounds so intriguing with a woman arrested for murder but yet she cannot recall anything about the murder or the night in question but yet she is arrested and must prove her innocents. I think this one sounds so compelling and interesting and with the writing skills that French is known for, I think this one is going to be excellent. I couldn’t fit it into my review calendar for this month but I am super…

Review: In Case of Emergency by E. G. Scott
This book had so much potential for me. I loved the premise and I was excited to read it. It sounded like it was going to be quite the nail bitter and I think the cover has a lot of visual interest to grab readers right away. I love books like this where the main character is a suspect in the murder of a complete stranger. For some reason that troupe always draws me in because that has got to be someone’s worst nightmare. I mean, I don’t know what I would do if I was being treated as a person of interest in a murder of a person I…

Review: Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell
I have only read one book by Lisa Jewell but I loved it and I was so excited to receive and ARC of her latest novel to read this fall! I really enjoyed The Family Upstairs but this one sounded a little darker and more intense than The Family Upstairs, but I was really looking forward to it and was eager to sit down on a dark and stormy lazy weekend to devour this one. One thing that I felt after reading Jewell’s The Family Upstairs was that she has a great way of adding substance and depth to all of her characters which is not always the case in…

Review: A Pretty Deceit (Verity Kent #4) by Anna Lee Huber
I have been a long time fan of Anna Lee Huber and I have read every single one of her books. I never miss one of her new releases so obviously I had the next Verity Kent book on my calendar months before its release. When I first started this series it felt different than Huber’s other books not just in time period but in characters too. Verity Kent has a lot more grit and grey area to her than some of Huber’s other heroines. And don’t even get me started on Sidney. I have struggled with Sidney’s character since the first book and have in all honesty never quite…

Special Feature: To Tell You the Truth by Gilly Macmillan
If you are a thriller fan, then you will no doubt have this book on your radar. I have seen a lot of positive feedback from early reviewers and I am excited to share a bit about this book with you all today. I haven’t read anything by Gilly Macmillan before but this book might persuade me to pick up not only this one but a few of her other books as well (The Nanny I am looking at you!). This book sounds like it would appeal to fans of Lisa Jewell and Shari Lapena so be sure to get this one on your TBR list and get all the…

Special Feature: Don’t Look for Me by Wendy Walker
This lated book by Wendy Walker has been on my radar for months. I received a copy in late spring and have been drooling over the stunning cover for months. I held off on reading it right away though because I know that my book club will probably be looking to this book in October to read. It sounds so so so good and I am thrilled to be sharing it with you guys today! If you love thrillers then you will likely have heard about this book thanks to the big hype. I sure hope it lives up to expectations but to be honest, I am fairly sure it…

Review: The Night Swim by Megan Goldin (Audible Edition)
I did a special feature on this book when it first came out. While it sounded good I wasn’t sure that it was one that I wanted to move up on my TBR list. Then I started seeing a lot of other people on my Instagram talking about this one and was intrigued by some of their reviews. So I decided to take it to my book club and see what they thought. We had fully planned on reading a different book for our September read, but this one sounded different and it also sounded like it that would generate a lot of great discussion for the book club.

Review: One Step Behind by Lauren North
I read Lauren North’s debut novel, The Perfect Son, when it came out and I absolutely loved it. I thought she was an exciting author with so much promise and I have been looking forward to this book for quite some time. Plus it features a stalker and nothing raises the hair on the back of my neck quite like a stalker story. I immediately fast tracked this book as a perfect introduction to my creepier fall reading. I had such high hopes for this one. The author, the story and don’t even get me started on that gorgeous cover! But I have to admit, I don’t know that I…

Special Feature: A Question of Betrayal (Elena Standish #2) by Anne Perry
If ever there was a modern queen of mystery, it would surely be Anne Perry. Not only is she a best selling novelist, she also spent time in jail for participating in a murder when she was a teenager. So if ever there was an author versed in the telling of murder, this author right here is it. I have loved the books of her’s that I have read and while I haven’t read this series yet, I know it’s one that I am going to adore too! I am reading this book here a little later this fall and I have already ordered the first book in this series…

Review: The Whisper Man by Alex North (Audible Edition)
My book club pick for August was The Whisper Man and I was so excited for it because I have had the book from my Book of the Month box for over a year. I often find myself looking at it on my shelves and think, ‘this is the month I am going to read it’ and then something else catches my eye and I forget until the next time my eye wanders that way. This month though I was determined to read it and was thrilled that my book club selected it for August!
