Review: Redemption of the Maverick Millionaire by Michelle Douglas

As many of you know, I had done a lot of reviews and features for Harlequin and their affiliate publishing houses over the last few years and I have discovered a ton of great books perfect for escaping.

This new Harlequin Romance novel came across my desk thanks to the author and while the cover seemed a little dated, I thought the story sounded fun and author Michelle Douglas has written a number of romance novels and all have been well received so saying yes to a review was easy!

As I mentioned the cover wasn’t my favorite, I think the dress of the woman could have been better….it looks kind of dated to me but that was the only negative first impression I had, the story itself sounded like it would redeem the cover!

Summary

The man who broke her heart…

…wants to win her back!

Millionaire entrepreneur Damon Macy bitterly regrets betraying Eve Clark four years ago. Preventing a massive development in her beloved seaside town seems the perfect way to make amends. Only, his “knight in shining armor” strategy backfires spectacularly—she supported the project! Now Damon must work closely with the still devastatingly stunning but now wary Eve to redeem the situation—and hopefully himself in the process…(summary from Goodreads)

Review

The books comes in at around 250 pages and is a super quick read. I could have easily finished it in one sitting but I decided to savor it and enjoy the story. I love second chance romances and this book was just what I needed right now.

I thought the author did a great job putting two strong characters together who are now older and wiser to see if their love has stood the test of time. When Damon and Eve went their separate ways, there was a lot of hurt but now they have a second chance to see if they can overcome their past. But what I loved was that the author was able to show growth in the characters. As I said this book was on the shorter side so the fact that the author was able to make that happen is a testament to her writing abilities.

Whenever I pick up a Harlequin romance, I know that I am going to get a HEA but what I love the most is seeing the moment when the characters decide that they too want a HEA (if that makes sense) and in this book the author does a great job showing how much the characters want that. This one was full of romance and love, it wasn’t always easy for the couple but in the end it was worth it.

This is my first book by this author but I can tell she is a practiced/seasoned writer as her story flowed nicely and I loved how she described the setting of their town. There was a lot to love in this book but the redemption story is what shines (as it was intended no doubt) and I found that I was able  to escape into a charming romance that left me feeling happy when it was all said and done.
