Re Post Review: The Prisoner in the Castle (Maggie Hope Mystery #8) by Susan Elia MacNeal
When I first discovered the Maggie Hope books back in 2012, I was overjoyed to find another new and exciting sleuth but this time with a new twist, she was more of a spy versus an amateur detective. As time has gone by, I have grown incredibly attached to Maggie Hope and her author, Susan Elia MacNeal. I was one of the first readers of this series and one of the first people to openly love and rave about Maggie to anyone who would listen. Since then, there have been eight books and each one so different from the other. Her character arc has gone in a number of different…

Review: The Silent Woman (Cat Carlisle #1) by Terry Lynn Thomas
Long before this book tour came about, I downloaded this book. I thought the cover was eye catching and I am a sucker for historical mysteries, so I downloaded it on my Kindle……. And promptly forgot about it. Like everything else in my electronic life, things get buried before I even know they are there! My Kindle is full of great books that I have ordered and forgotten about. So when this book came up for review as part of the HFVBT tour group, I was eager to join up. I didn’t even realize that I already owned the book until I went to download it again and found that…

Special Feature: Theater of Spies (Tales from the Black Chamber #2) by S.M. Stirling
Black Chamber released last year and it was one of my most anticipated reads. I don’t read a whole lot of alternative history, but this one sounded so good. While it ended up not being my cup of tea, I did appreciate the story and creativity that went into writing this new spin on history. The follow up book Theater of Spies is out now and promises to be an equally wild ride full of spies and blinding twists! This series has been described as ‘Wonder Woman meets The Man in the High Castle with a splash of James Bond’ and I completely agree with this description. Besides the fascinating time…

Review: The Break Line (Max McLean #1) by James Brabazon
When I first started blogging, I wasn’t reading too many thrillers, let alone government thrillers. But over the years, I have read a few here and the genre started to grown on me. Since I started blogging, I have increased my thriller base substantially. Often though, I find that I am coming into a thriller series late in the game, with established characters and well developed subplots. When I had the opportunity to start this government thriller from the beginning, I eagerly said yes. This is a debut novel for author James Brabazon and his main character Max McLean so steaks are high for a solid introductory novel.

I had the pleasure of reviewing this book and I loved it! It was easily 5 stars for me! Verity Kent is such a sassy and interesting heroine and I can’t get enough of her! I have long since been a fan of Huber’s books and I am thrilled to be able to offer a copy of this book for my readers! This is the book you want to read in October! It’s a suspenseful mystery and worthy of fall reading! In 1919 England, in the shadow of The Great War, many look to the spirit world for answers. But it will take an all too earthbound intrigue to draw…

Review: Treacherous Is the Night (Verity Kent #2) by Anna Lee Huber
Full disclosure, I’ve been a huge fan of Anna Lee Huber for years. I absolutely love all of her books and I can’t get enough of the heroines, mysteries, and of course the covers! The Verity Kent series is no different. I read the first book in the Verity Kent series earlier this year and I loved it! It was an interesting start to a different type of heroine for Huber. I was eager to see what else was in store for Verity in this latest book in the series. In 1919 England, in the shadow of The Great War, many look to the spirit world for answers. But it…

Review: The Prisoner in the Castle (Maggie Hope Mystery #8) by Susan Elia MacNeal
I first discovered Maggie Hope back in 2012 when the first book came across my desk for review. The cover was initially what drew me in and I was never once sorry for judging a book by its cover! Over the years, Maggie’s character has gone in a number of different directions and none of them were directions that I saw coming. For me, that’s one of the things that keeps this series exciting. You have this American typist how somehow ends up becoming a super high-level spy…..I love it! Thought the series she has tracked down murders, saved the queen, broke codes, parachuted into France, and had her heart…

Review: Black Chamber (Tales from the Black Chamber #1) by S.M. Stirling
When this book came across my desk for review—I was stoked. I don’t read a ton of alternative history, but this one sounded so so so good that I was eager to read it without question. I sounded like alternative history mixed with some espionage and sci-fi so how could I pass? I couldn’t! In 1912, just months before the election, President Taft dies suddenly, and Teddy Roosevelt wastes no time in grabbing power as he wins another term as president. By force of will, he ushers the United States into a new, progressive era with the help of the Black Chamber the mysterious spy organization, watching his back. Luz…

Review: The Alice Network by Kate Quinn
This book was everywhere last year. It was first published in June of 2017 and it’s been every where ever since. All over my social media, on all my friends ‘to read’ or ‘favorite’ shelfs, and at my local library as a librarian favorite. It sounded like something that would be right up my alley, but for some reason it just didn’t scream ‘read me’ even though I had it sitting in my Kindle library for months. Part of me was worried about the hype and another part of me just wasn’t into reading a war time friendship story as I prefer war time romances generally. However, this last month…
