Special Feature: The Last Queen: Elizabeth II’s Seventy Year Battle to Save the House of Windsor by Clive Irving

There has been a bright spot in the pandemic, I have finally had an excuse to get caught up on some of my favorite Netflix shows, one of which is The Crown. I absolutely love anything related to the monarchy and I was so excited to finally have some time to catch up on one of my favorite shows!

I have read a lot of fiction based on the Windsor monarchy, but I hadn’t read too many non fiction novels though. In general I am not a big non fiction reader but I have enjoyed some memoirs and other non fiction works, I mean I am a historian after all, which is one of the reasons this book caught my eye.

Today I am thrilled to be bringing you guys not only a little bit about this book, but a special excerpt written but the author as well all about Queen Elizabeth II. If you love The Crown and are looking for a more comprehensive history of the royals, then this might be a book you want to check out!

Review: Not My Boy by Kelly Simmons

It’s a new year and this is my first official book review of 2021 and I must say, I was thrilled to start the year off with a bang when it came to my first read of the new year! I have read only one other book by this author and it was pretty good so I was looking forward to picking up another by her!

While I loved the cover (the little boy with a red coat is just so eye catching), I think it was the summary the truly sold me on this one as a potential read. Whenever a review pitch comes across my desk I always read each one and a catchy summary and book cover always help a book to stand out!

I liked the idea of an upper middle class setting and the idea of a wrongly accused son with a mama bear to protect him. I thought it would a relatable book for me as I have a son as well. I dove in during winter break and was eager to wrap up my first read of 2021.

Review: A Princess by Christmas (A Royal Wedding #3) by Julia London

Well friends, this is it—my last review of 2020! I wasn’t sure that I would finish it before the New Year but I finished it just in time and with one day to spare. I was really looking forward to this one, I had it up for a special feature and excerpt when it first came out back in October. I also loved the dress on the cover (I know I am easily distracted) so I was eager to check out this holiday read!

I haven’t read anything by this author before and I noticed that this was the third in a series but I didn’t think that would be a big deal. The excerpt was interesting and more often than not, the focus is on the romance with little connecting the main character to the larger story other than a few reoccurring secondary characters from previous books.

I read so many holiday reads this year. More than I have in any of the previous years. I had high hopes for this one and while I enjoyed it, it didn’t quite pack the holiday punch that I was expecting this year.

Review: The Twelve Dates of Christmas by Jenny Bayliss

Unless you have been living under a rock, this book has been just about everywhere. At least on my social media it has been! Its seems like everyone has been reading this one and raving about it.

So needless to say, in all my holiday reading I decided to jump on the bandwagon. I thought for sure this was going to be a book that I would breeze through and it would leave me feeling all full of Christmas cheer and happiness.

But instead this one left me feeling a little like a Scrooge. I didn’t love it. It wasn’t awful but it definitely wouldn’t have been my pick for a holiday romance. I had hoped for a lot more humor but I got an angsty vibe that I didn’t anticipate.

Special Feature: Boone (Eternity Springs: The McBrides of Texas #3) by Emily March

Emily March has a large fan following and her series, Eternity Springs, is probably her most popular, but this little spin off series, The McBrides of Texas, has been receiving a lot of praise. The third book in that particular series, Boone, is out now and I couldn’t be more excited to share a little about this book with you all!

Emily March is a very prolific romance writer and there seems to be a little something for every reader when it comes to her books—small town romance, holiday romance, cowboy romance. When I see writers with many books and fans, it’s clear to me that they are doing something right. Clearly people like their books which makes me feel confident that I will too!

I really enjoy a small town romance and this book sounds like it’s going to have all the small town romance and cowboy romance readers have been looking for. If you love romances or if you have read any of March’s other books then you will no doubt be looking forward to this one!
