Special Feature: The Other Me by Sarah Zachrich Jeng

Typically I am not a huge sci fi fan. I have tried a few over the years and it’s just not my genre but I don’t mind thrillers that have some sci fi elements. The mashup typically works well for me and I don’t mind branching out and trying something a little on the new side. That was what drew me to this one—that unique mash up of mystery/thriller and sci fi elements.

I don’t know if I will move it to the top of my TBR list, but there is enough here in the description and in some of the early reviews to give me pause and consider a book that might be a little out of my comfort zone. Some early reviewers have called this one a little strange which would normally be off putting, however I think in this context and genre blending, I think it’s supposed to be strange.

If you are looking for a thriller with a different vibe this summer then I think this book could be just what you are looking for. I liked the concept of making a different choice with the life you have versus the one you might have had. I think this book will explore some interesting concepts and have a very unique feel right from the beginning. I am excited to see what people think of this one and of course it’s on my TBR to check out!

Special Feature: The Last Mrs Summers (Her Royal Spyness #14) by Rhys Bowen

I absolutely adore Rhys Bowen! I have read many of her series and stand alone novels but the Royal Spyness books are my absolute favorite! I have slowly been making my way through the Spyness books and jumping around here and there but I have to admit, I did have to press pause with my jumping around until I am fully caught up in the series because I love reading them in order. Hence why I just have a feature here. Yes the books can be read out of order to varying degrees but I wanted to get the full experience.

I can’t believe there are 14 books in the series now! Bowen’s books never get old to me and Georgie is such an endearing character and I love watching her solve mysteries. The early books are so funny and charming and the magic has continued well into the series for me which doesn’t always happen with some long standing series. Sure some of the books are better than others but overall I have never tired of Georgie!

This latest book sounds like it’s going to be right up my alley because I LOVE gothic elements in mysteries and this one sounds like it’s going to have a bit of a gothic element to it and I cannot wait! I am going to catch up on this series soon just so I can dive into this one…..hell I might even just read it this fall even if I am not caught up because it sounds so good! If you love cozy historical mysteries this is an outstanding series! Pop on over and grab yourself a copy of this latest release!

Special Feature: The Perfume Thief by Timothy Schaffert

Sometimes a book just grabs you with its unique mashup. When I saw that this one was a mashup between A Gentleman in Moscow and Moulin Rouge my curiosity was peaked. I haven’t read A Gentleman in Moscow but I have seen Moulin Rouge and I loved the color and flamboyant drama of the film. So needless to say I was like ‘tell me more’ when I saw this one!

Not only does this book have a flashy cover and mash up, it sounds like it’s going to have lots of things that might interest a variety of readers. Romance, espionage, queer American expat, history, war, and haute couture. I am super excited to be sharing a bit about this novel with all of you guys today. I think this one is going to have broad appeal for many readers who might not normally pick up a book like this. It sounds artistic, smart, and full of lots of different themes. I for one am really looking forward to this one!

Early reviewers have raved about this one and I am excited to see what others are saying about this one as it hits shelves this week! Author Timothy Schaffert has written a number of books and this appears to be one of his most anticipated novels yet! Keep reading for all the details and how to snag yourself a copy of this stunning book!

Special Feature: The Dating Dare (A Sweet Mess #2) by Jayci Lee

Who here doesn’t love a good rom-com? I could watch rom-coms all day every day! I love to laugh and I love romance so the comb is a win-win for me. When it comes to my reading tastes, it’s damn near impossible to pass on a rom-com! Korean author Jayci Lee has written a number of romance novels and last year she wrote a charming rom-com called A Sweet Mess and this book right here is the follow up to that fun read! The Sweet Mess series seemed to be the novel she really wanted to write. I haven’t read her other books but this one seemed like it was the book she was most looking forward to writing.

When I saw she has a follow up coming out, I was really looking forward to it. Of course my summer reading calendar filled up super quick so today I am featuring this follow up novel, The Dating Dare, today but I have it on my calendar to read later this fall. I know that most romance novels read as stand alones and I have no reason to think differently when it comes to this novel. In fact many reviewers commented on how it was easily a stand alone book but I think Jayci Lee is a talented writer who writes funny and charming romances so I would certainly read her other books as well as the first book in this series!

If you are looking for a rom-com to round out your summer reading then I think this one will be your jam! Modern, sexy, funny, and of course romantic all wrapped up in one charming rom-com book! Keep reading to get all the details and be sure to snag yourself a copy for your night stand or your beach bag!

Special Feature: Agatha Christie: First Lady of Crime by H.R.F. Keating

Is there really any argument when it comes to who the first lady of crime is? No, no there is not. Agatha Christie is the queen of crime and mystery novels. She has written many a beloved series and I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who hasn’t read at least one Christie novel or at least seen a film or two based on one of her books.

I know that I have enjoyed her books as well as some of the films and tv series based on her books, and while I have enjoyed the films and such, nothing beats her actual books. I think one of the things that I often ask myself though is what was this amazing woman like in real life? What is her story? Where did she get her inspiration from? Beyond her books, I don’t really know much about her as a woman which is one of the reasons this book caught my eye.

I don’t read a lot of non fiction or biographies but this one sounds really interesting and I think that fans of Christie will find something to enjoy in getting to know the beloved author a little better. The author of this book, H. R. F. Keating, is a mystery writer in her own right and I am eager to see how her love of writing mysteries translates in this lovely non fiction work about one of the most beloved authors of all time! If biographies are your thing, I think you should check this one out and discover a bit more about the woman behind some of the most iconic mystery novels of all time!
