Review: Not My Boy by Kelly Simmons

It’s a new year and this is my first official book review of 2021 and I must say, I was thrilled to start the year off with a bang when it came to my first read of the new year! I have read only one other book by this author and it was pretty good so I was looking forward to picking up another by her!

While I loved the cover (the little boy with a red coat is just so eye catching), I think it was the summary the truly sold me on this one as a potential read. Whenever a review pitch comes across my desk I always read each one and a catchy summary and book cover always help a book to stand out!

I liked the idea of an upper middle class setting and the idea of a wrongly accused son with a mama bear to protect him. I thought it would a relatable book for me as I have a son as well. I dove in during winter break and was eager to wrap up my first read of 2021.

Special Feature: Chilled to the Cone (A Bakeshop Mystery #12) by Ellie Alexander

Cozy mystery fans be on the look out for this upcoming installment of a charming series out tomorrow! I have adored many of Ellie Alexander’s books including this series! I have skipped around a bit in it but I have always felt more of less up to speed with the characters.

I especially love all the baking elements and the fact that she is an Oregon author and this series is set in Ashland Oregon, only makes me all the more excited for it!

As I mentioned this one is out tomorrow so you don’t want to miss it! Even if you aren’t fully caught up in the series (like me) don’t let that dissuade you from reading this one! The author always does a nice job orientating readers in the series and the focus is on the mystery—-and the food of course!

Review: The Girl from Widow Hills by Megan Miranda (Audible Edition)

For the month of December, my book club decided to read this book and I had seen a lot of reviews about this one and was super excited to check it out.

I have never read anything by this author before but I have seen a number of her books and often thought about picking them up to see what all the buzz was about, but then for some reason fell back to other authors that I knew or had read before.

Well after reading this one, Megan Miranda will be an author I read more often. This was a great read and I was often sitting there wondering what in the world was going on and how this was all going to come together! The ending was especially great!

Take Two Review: The Art of Theft (Lady Sherlock #4) by Sherry Thomas

I read this book last October and at that time, I was not really into the Lady Sherlock series. I just couldn’t get into the first book but then this one came up and I was intrigued and wanted to give it another go.

When I read it, I really enjoyed it much more than the first book. While I hadn’t read the other books in the series, I didn’t feel overly lost and thought it was a fun diverting mystery.

I ultimately decided to go back and re-read the series, but it wasn’t too high up on my reading priority list but then I read the fifth book this year and was compelled to go back and start the series from the beginning. So as we go into the holiday season, that was exactly what I did, read the books from beginning to end.

Review: The Hollow of Fear (Lady Sherlock #3) by Sherry Thomas

I am 100% a mood reader and when I started this series I just wasn’t feeling it at all, which bothered me. By all accounts this should have been a series that I would love and I just didn’t when I read the first book the first time.

But I decided after reading one of the later books in the series, that I maybe hadn’t given this series the chance that it deserved. So I went back and re-read the first book and for whatever reason, found it much more enjoyable this time around.

So here I am on the third book in the series and I am 100% hooked on it. I think this is my favorite in the series so far. Even over some of the later books. I loved this one and couldn’t put it down!
