Review: The Last Summer at Chelsea Beach by Pam Jenoff

With war on the horizon, Adelia Monteforte’s parents send her away from Italy to America in hopes of saving her from the Nazi invasion. When she arrives in America, she is clearly an outsider. Her aunt and uncle take her in, they have no children of their own so they try their best with the teenage Adelia.

In hopes of distracting Adelia from her alienation and loss of her parents, they take her to the shore over the summer where she meets the Connally family. The four brothers welcome her with open arms and nickname her Addie. They make her feel like a normal girl though she is a foreigner and a Jew, with the Connally family she is just that….family.

Addie is immediately drawn to Charlie Connally, the oldest golden boy. He’s the football star and had a promising future at college. What would be ever want with a girl like Addie? But she can’t help but admire him from afar.

Liam in the quintessential bad boy of the family. Dark and brooding, he stands up for Addie when none of the other brothers do. But it’s Charlie who wins Addie’s affections. Addie can hardly believe it when Charlie confesses his love for her, her world is a dream now!

Review: Scent of Triumph by Jan Moran

I love war time romances…like with a passion! It has been a long time since I’ve read a book in one sitting…..like a LONG TIME.

This book took me by complete surprise at how compelling it was.

I was addicted from the very beginning and literally could not put it down until I finished it.

I don’t know what it is about forbidden romances that just gets me but there just is!

I was immediately struck by the raw attraction between Danielle and Jon. Danielle and her husband Max are on their way back to Poland to be united with their son and family.

Their are on board a passenger ship crewed by Jonathan Newell-Grey, on the eve of WWII when a German U-boat fires on them….sinking the ship.

Review: The Bronze Horseman (The Bronze Horseman #1) by Paullina Simons

In Leningrad, life is about to change in a big way. Seventeen year old Tatiana, has known nothing but long summers full of ice cream and day dreams.

But all that changes when the declaration of war is announced. Germany has invaded Russian and they march toward Leningrad. Tatiana’s parents send her to the store to buy all the food she can.

On her way to the store, Tatiana stops for an ice cream when she spots a soldier staring at her from across the street. The soldier, Alexander, gets on the same bus as Tatiana and rides with her all over the city, and then eventually back home.

When she returns home, she is eager to introduce her new friend to her family, but Alexander and her older sister, Dasha, already know each other…..quite well in fact. Dasha has been sneaking off each night to meet Alexander and claims she is in love with him.

Tatiana is crushed because she felt sure that her and Alexander had a connection….Alexander felt it too.
