Review: The Light at Wyndcliff (Cornwall #3) by Sarah E. Ladd

I have only read one or two books by Sarah Ladd and I have enjoyed them but this isn’t an author that I would go in search of at a bookstore—until now.

This cover is what initially drew me in but the description of the book is what made me agree to reviewing it. Before this book, Sarah Ladd would have been an author that I would have picked up if I saw the book on an end cap or something or other, but after reading this one, I would gladly go in search of her novels the next time I go to a bookstore.

There is something so mysterious and alluring about the Cornish coast for me and this book captured all the things I like best about historical romances. I have also decided that I need the other books in the series as well because I am not ready to leave the Cornish coast just yet.

Summary

In the third book of this sweet Regency Cornwall series, one young man must search for truth among the debris of multiple shipwrecks on his newly inherited property.

Review

This book had so much atmosphere, like more than I was expecting. The setting seemed to take on a life of its own. I loved the windswept coast and the manor house….this story reminded me a little of a Victoria Holt novel and long time readers of my blog will know how much I love Victoria Holt.

I started this book on a breezy fall weekend and I instantly felt a connection to the characters, the setting and the story. I loved the romance. It was genuine, sweet, and the way the characters had to overcome their own issues was excellent. I was fully invested in Liam and Evelyn’s love story and I really liked how the book ended. If you love classic historical romances that are more sweet than steamy, then this is a great one for you.

The characters have very believable flaws that are not off putting but at the same time obvious enough to be considered flaws or challenges to themselves as well as the relationships that they have in their lives. I think I felt more of a connection to Liam rather than Evelyn but I thought both had a lot to recommend themselves to readers and of course together as a couple they were so perfect.

This book is publisher by a Christian publisher and though there are some faith/forgiveness pieces that fans of Christian Fiction will recognize, I also think that non Christian fiction fans will enjoy this book especially for its atmosphere and swashbuckling story.

As you might have noticed, this is the third book in the series but it read as a standalone for me so readers should not feel anxious that they will have to go back and read the other books in the series before reading this one. I am eager to go back and read the other books thought because this one was so enjoyable!

I am looking forward to reading more book by Sarah Ladd in the future! If you love historical romances with mood then this is the book you have been waiting for!

About the Author

Sarah E. Ladd has always loved the Regency period — the clothes, the music, the literature and the art. A college trip to England and Scotland confirmed her interest in the time period and gave her idea of what life would’ve looked like in era. It wasn’t until 2010 that Ladd began writing seriously. Shortly after, Ladd released the first book in the Whispers on the Moors series. Book one of the series, The Heiress of Winterwood, was the recipient of the 2011 ACFW Genesis Award for historical romance. Ladd also has more than ten years of marketing experience. She holds degrees in public relations and marketing and lives in Indiana with her family and spunky Golden Retriever.
