Special Feature: THE ORPHAN’S SONG by Lauren Kate

I think that many of you know how much I love historical fiction by now, so when this book arrived in my mailbox I was thrilled! Isn’t that cover just to die for?! And I have been seeing this book pop up, not just on my social media, but on many different lists as one of the summers hottest historical fiction releases.

Today I am thrilled to share with all of you that THE ORPHAN’S SONG is officially out in the world and ripe for the reading. The author, Lauren Kate, is also going to be in the Portland area signing books at Powell’s Books Cedar Hills Crossing location and I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can make it up there to meet her.

But until then, here is a little info about the book everyone is talking about this summer.

A sweeping story of music and mystery that explores the vibrant world of 18th century Venice through the eyes of two gifted orphans and the transformative power of their star-crossed love. After building a successful career writing wildly popular young adult novels, including the New York Times bestselling Fallen and Teardrop series, Lauren Kate has now turned her considerable talents to her adult historical fiction debut. From New York Times bestselling author Sabrina Jeffries comes a sparkling new series about an oft-widowed mother’s grown children, who blaze through society in their quest for the truth about their fathers . . . and in the process find that love just might conquer all . . .

A series of stepfathers and a difficult childhood have left Fletcher “Grey” Pryde, 5th Duke of Greycourt, with a guarded heart, enviable wealth, and the undeserved reputation of a rogue. Grey’s focus on expanding his dukedom allows him little time to find a wife. But when his mother is widowed yet again and he meets the charmingly unconventional woman managing his stepfather’s funeral, he’s shocked to discover how much they have in common. Still, Grey isn’t interested in love, no matter how pretty, or delightfully outspoken, the lady . . .

Beatrice Wolfe gave up on romance long ago, and the arrogant Duke of Greycourt with his rakish reputation isn’t exactly changing her mind. Then Grey agrees to assist his grief-stricken mother with her latest “project”: schooling spirited, unfashionable Beatrice for her debut. Now that Beatrice is seeing through Grey’s charms to his wounded heart, she’s having trouble keeping him at arm’s length. But once Grey starts digging into her family’s secrets, she must decide whether her loyalties lie with her family . . . or with the man whose lessons capture her heart . . .

Special Feature: THE SUMMER GUESTS by Mary Alice Monroe

Summer reading is in full swing and I can’t tell you how many good books have popped up on my radar these last couple of months! I love seeing all the bright, springy covers and this one is one of my favorites!

That cover looks like it fell right out of a Martha Stewart magazine and I absolutely love it and it screams ‘summer time’ to me.

Mary Alice Monroe is a new to me author, but she has written a number of women’s fiction novels with the majority being summer time focused. This book has had a ton of advanced praise and is out now, so I wanted to make sure it was on your radar before everyone heads off on vacation, because this is a book you don’t want to leave behind in your beach bag! Review: Summer on Mirror Lake (Honeymoon Harbor #3) by JoAnn Ross

I have only just discovered JoAnn Ross recently when I read her Christmas romance, Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane, which is also part of the Honeymoon Harbor series.

I found her writing well practiced and the story entertaining and I was open to reading more of her books.

As winter gave way to spring, another Honeymoon Harbor popped up as a review request and since I love summer romances, I figured this was a great time to say yes to another one of JoAnn Ross’s books!

This cover was especially eye catching and since the story is set in the Pacific Northwest, I couldn’t help but be excited by both the description and cover! Continue reading “Review: Summer on Mirror Lake (Honeymoon Harbor #3) by JoAnn Ross”

Review: The Last Woman in the Forest by Diane Les Becquets

I wanted to read this book for entirely superficial reasons.

I loved the dog on the cover.

I know, I know, you can barely see the dog but I know it’s a husky and I have a husky so as a husky lover, I couldn’t pass this book up based on that alone. That and in the summary it sounded like said dog was going to be part of the book, as the main character worked with rescue dogs.

So that’s what roped me in initially, but then I read the description and I liked the sound of the thriller/suspense genre mixed with a romance aspect of the book, so I decided to give it a try. Continue reading “Review: The Last Woman in the Forest by Diane Les Becquets”
