Interview: A conversation with JULIETTE WELLS to celebrate 200th anniversary edition of EMMA by Jane Austen

Who doesn’t love Jane Austen? She is timeless and tells timeless stories about timeless women. I have read almost all of Austen’s novels and Emma is one of my absolute favorites.

Emma Woodhouse is one of Austen’s most unique characters because she is independently wealthy and doesn’t really ‘need’ anyone which I absolutely love. Not to mention the story of match making has the upmost potential to be comical and a bit of a blunder. This story has been remade time and again, including pop culture icon film, Clueless.

Penguin is releasing a 200th anniversary DELUXE edition of the book! I am thrilled to be able to offer not only a giveaway for the book but a conversation with the author as well!

Please welcome Juliette Wells wrote the introduction of the EMMA:200TH ANNIVERSARY ANNOTATED EDITION, to The Lit Bitch!

Review: Les Miserables: (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition) by Victor Hugo

This book is a literally massive. For years I have thought about reading it, and though I am not intimidated by the length or the wordy writing style….I kept putting it off.

Even after seeing the film, I thought…..this is the time I am going to read it…..and then I didn’t. I knew it would take me a while to read and considering that the French translation of ‘Les Miserables’ is ‘the miserable ones’ or the ‘poor ones’….I knew it would be an emotional roller-coaster that I just wasn’t ready for in my reading.

Well no more excuses. When the new Penguin Deluxe edition came out, I was in some serious cover lust so I agreed to review it….no more excuses!

I’ve read The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Hugo and was frankly a little lost and found the writing bland, so I worried that this would be the same. TOTALLY NOT THE CASE!

I will say that it is helpful if you have seen the film or the musical, as it gives the reader an orientation within the story, but it’s not a requirement.

Review: Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy

2015 promises to be a big year for books into movies, one of which that caught my eye was Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy.

The trailer looked beautiful and intriguing, not to mention the description of the book itself.

A love….square I guess….three men one woman….a tale of love and unrequited desire? Plus cute little sheep? I’m in!

I haven’t read anything by Thomas Hardy before so getting used to his prose was difficult. Very descriptive and flowery, and thick at times but after getting used to it, it wasn’t too bad.

Bathsheba Everdene is everything a bad-ass heroine should be….strong willed, bold, and independent. She has come into possession of her own lands and farm where she plans on being her own mistress and running her own estate.
