Review: You Had Me at Hola (Primas of Power #1) by Alexis Daria

This book has been on my radar for quite a while. I even dowloaded a copy a few months ago with the intension of reading it but then my ADHD kicked in and another book caught my eye and this one fell by the wayside. Every once in a while though I would see it pop up on my radar again and in my recommended reading, finally I decided to pick it up! I was really wanting something light and fun, and that fact that it was Hispanic Heritage Month, I thought why not read this one?!

I loved the idea of two soap opera/novella stars coming together for a romance. It sounded kinda cheesy but also kinda fun and just what I needed to keep me engaged but while being light enough where I could sort of ‘zone out’ while reading. I loved soap operas growing up as a kid. When I was home sick I loved throwing on Days of Our Lives to pass the time. I could fall asleep and wake up again and keep right on watching, and that’s what I was hoping for from this book.

So does this sound like fluff? Yes not might sound like it but there was a lot much of the book that wasn’t just ‘fluff’. Personally I am loving more fluff reading of late. There is something about romances that appeal to me so much right now, some of it is the fluff aspect where things are just lighter and fun to read while also getting a HEA. But occasionally there are romances that have more substance and those are fine too but generally I like the lighter fluffy romances. This was more on the fluffy side but there were some parts that had more substance to them—-over all a nice balance.

Special Feature: The Duke’s Rules for Engagement by Jennifer Haymore

There is something about the romance genre that I just can’t get enough of! When I was younger (like late teens and early 20s) I thought that the romance genre was just for lonely housewives with nothing else better to read. Then I started reading more and more romances and next thing I knew, I had to admit I was so wrong about romances. I love reading romances now. There is something so satisfying about KNOWING I am going to get a HEA when the book is over.

Within the romance genre, there are tons of sub genres to choose from. Historical romances are really my jam. I love historical romances and am always thrilled to check out new to me historical romances. Jennifer Haymore is one such ‘new to me author’ that I cannot wait to check out. Haymore had a rash of historical romance novels and series under her belt and I cannot wait to check out her books. Her latest, THE DUKE’S RULES FOR ENGAGEMENT, is her latest novel and one I am thrilled to feature on my blog today!

If you are a historical romance fan you might have heard of some of her books and series. Clearly she is a seasoned writer with lots of fans so I cannot wait to read one of her romances and this one sounded so great! It has hints of enemies to lovers (my favorite troupe) and so much more to recommend itself! It’s out now so be sure and check it out especially if you are a historical romance fan!

Review: One Woman’s War by Christine Wells

Ya’ll should know by now that I am a sucker for basically any historical fiction, but I have a soft spot for war time historical fiction. This book has a strong espionage angle that I thought sounded interesting. I love spy novels and espionage, lately a lot of historical fiction novels include an espionage angle so naturally I gravitate towards book that include this.

When I saw this one come up for review, it was an easy yes. I loved that the real life story of Victoire Bennett, was the inspiration for the classic James Bond character, Moneypenny! For someone who loves spy novels, there can be no passing on a book whos character inspired such an iconic character in the Bond series. I couldn’t wait to check this one out.

Author Christine Wells, has written other books about women in resistance work throughout history and I felt excited to read this book even if she was a new to me author. I know that sometimes spy novels can be a big undertaking, but since Wells has experience writing historical novels where espionage and spying are the focal point, I had no problem saying yes to this one!

Special Feature and Excerpt: All is Bright by RaeAnne Thayne

I have been a long time RaeAnne Thayne fan! Every fall I look forward to her upcoming holiday releases. I usually hold off reading them until it’s closer to the holiday season but I am always down to feature them in early fall! For me personally, I am all about spooky mysteries in the fall so I don’t actually pick up any Christmas-y books until usually November, but I know that in the publishing world, the Christmas books start hitting shelves in September!

To be honest though, RaeAnne Thayne is an excellent choice any time of year. She has written so many wonderful books and series that I have enjoyed holiday themed and not! She is an excellent and proven writer and in my opinion you cannot go wrong with any of her books! I am so excited to share a little excerpt with you guys today for this upcoming holiday release! It sounds like it’s going to be so good! You don’t want to miss this one.

I will no doubt have a review up as the holiday season approaches so be watching for that in the future! If you love feel good, heartwarming, stories about small town life and romance then you don’t want to miss this one—-or anything by Thayne for that matter! I mean that cover is just so cozy and inviting and I cannot want to crack this one open over a cup of hot chocolate this holiday season—or maybe a bit before since I can hardly resist a good romance!

Special Feature and Excerpt: An Autumn Kiss by Annette Lyon, Lisa H. Catmull, and Laura Rollins

This book cover is giving meals the fall vibes! I am absolutely in love with this dress! I wish I could wear something like this to work, it looks so cozy! This book is coming in hot with the fall theme not just in the cover but in the title as well and I am absolutely here for it. I am ready to usher in fall and all the cozy reading and this book seems like a nice way to do that!

Today I have an excerpt to share with you guys and I am really looking forward to hearing what you guys think! This series is in it’s seventh book but they can be read out of order. This book is on the shorter side (300 pages) so it will make for some quick reading no doubt, and it’s an anthology so there are a couple of stories included in this one!

I love clean romances and of course the Victorian era is right up my alley (yes, I binged Bridgerton)! Each novella features a fun heroine and a charming romance for readers to enjoy and while I often favor full length romances sometimes having a novella/anthology is refreshing. I find that reading a variety of stories can help break up the desire to read something fun without having to fully commit to a full length novel if that makes sense. I am so excited to check this collection out and I hope you enjoy reading the excerpt!
