Review: Bethlehem by Karen Kelly

This book came across my desk for review months ago. I adore the simple cover and didn’t need to think twice about adding this one to my review schedule because it was historical fiction and looked elegant! Let’s be honest that cover is a solid 10. It’s gorgeous and I absolutely love love love it!

While this book is a debut for writer Karen Kelly, I was looking forward to it because of all the early advance praise it received. Though it did have some large shoes to fill when it came to some of the early praise and promise of the summary.

Her writing style is described as ‘the writing chops of Ian McEwan and the story-craft of Lisa Wingate’. McEwan is a big name in literature so obviously I was a little skeptical, especially since I don’t really care for his novels, but that said, I was eager to see if this book lived up to the hype it’s been getting. Special Feature: THE SUMMER GUESTS by Mary Alice Monroe

Summer reading is in full swing and I can’t tell you how many good books have popped up on my radar these last couple of months! I love seeing all the bright, springy covers and this one is one of my favorites!

That cover looks like it fell right out of a Martha Stewart magazine and I absolutely love it and it screams ‘summer time’ to me.

Mary Alice Monroe is a new to me author, but she has written a number of women’s fiction novels with the majority being summer time focused. This book has had a ton of advanced praise and is out now, so I wanted to make sure it was on your radar before everyone heads off on vacation, because this is a book you don’t want to leave behind in your beach bag! Review: Summer on Mirror Lake (Honeymoon Harbor #3) by JoAnn Ross

I have only just discovered JoAnn Ross recently when I read her Christmas romance, Snowfall on Lighthouse Lane, which is also part of the Honeymoon Harbor series.

I found her writing well practiced and the story entertaining and I was open to reading more of her books.

As winter gave way to spring, another Honeymoon Harbor popped up as a review request and since I love summer romances, I figured this was a great time to say yes to another one of JoAnn Ross’s books!

This cover was especially eye catching and since the story is set in the Pacific Northwest, I couldn’t help but be excited by both the description and cover! Continue reading “Review: Summer on Mirror Lake (Honeymoon Harbor #3) by JoAnn Ross”

Review: The Favorite Daughter by Patti Callahan Henry

I recently read Becoming Mrs Lewis by Patti Callahan (Henry) and I fell in love with that book and was eager to read some of her more contemporary books.

I had been pitched her book, The Bookshop at Water’s End, back in 2017 and passed at the time and now I am so sad that I did because I would have discovered this author long before now!

At any rate, I was thrilled to read this book when it came out and was looking forward to reading some of her contemporary fiction to see how it compared to her historical work. I knew that each book would be vastly different as they are different genres, but she’s an excellent writer and I know that good writing is good writing, and regardless of genre, that’s what stands out in a good book.
