Review: Things in Jars by Jess Kidd

Jess Kidd is an author who keeps flying around in my radar but yet I just never seem to have the time to fit in her books. That and I just wasn’t completely sold on the fact that I would love this author. I mean some of her books sound good—but quirky.

I love quirky as much as the next person, but I need to be in the mood for quirky and I just haven’t been lately, but then this book started popping up on my radar and I started to rethink that decision.

This book caught my eye because it was set in the Victorian era and the word gothic lit, which if you know me, then you know it is basically impossible for me to pass on Victorian era gothic lit books, so here we are. Continue reading “Review: Things in Jars by Jess Kidd”

Review: The Light After the War by Anita Abriel

Post WWII era books have become rather popular lately and while I haven’t read too many of them, I thought it would be good to get a few under my belt.

I have read a lot of post WWI era books which I love, but I haven’t read too many post WWII era books and this one sounded like it would provide and interesting glimpse of life after the war and I thought I would enjoy seeing how these characters navigated the post war period.

I liked that the story was based on real events as the author’s mother was a Holocaust survivor so I thought this book would really add a personal touch and perspective that would make a great read! Continue reading “Review: The Light After the War by Anita Abriel”

Review: Sanditon: Official ITV Tie-In Edition by Kate Riordan and Jane Austen

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am a big Jane Austen fan. I love her novels with my favorite being Persuasion. I have read most of her popular novels but confess I haven’t had a chance to read her unfinished works such as Sandtion.

With the show being released finally here in the US, I thought this would be prime time for me to check out this unfinished novel by Austen, that Kate Riordan picked up and completed.

The show looks fantastic, plus Theo James need I say more. I haven’t yet watched it (I am so behind on my shows!) but I love period dramas and with an author like Jane Austen you simply can’t go wrong! Continue reading “Review: Sanditon: Official ITV Tie-In Edition by Kate Riordan and Jane Austen”

Review: Who Buries the Dead (Sebastian St. Cyr #10) by C.S. Harris

I just couldn’t resist picking up another Sebastian St Cyr mystery. I toyed with the idea of taking a break and reading something else but I just kept coming back to this series and wanted to know what was in store for Sebastian so here we are with yet another review.

I think it’s safe to say that I will easily surpass my Goodreads reading goal this year considering I’ve already finished 10 books in this series before January was even done!

Though I will say, I am tempted to take a break after this one because this was my least favorite in the series thus far and let me tell you why…. Continue reading “Review: Who Buries the Dead (Sebastian St. Cyr #10) by C.S. Harris”

Review: Why Kings Confess (Sebastian St. Cyr #9) by C.S. Harris

I love binge reading different series, but this is probably the longest series I have endeavored to binge read.

I am so torn between soldiering on and taking a break now that I have finished book 10, and yes I know this is the review for book 9, but I finished book 10 last night and was considering taking a break.

But I will be honest, I started reading a different book and I couldn’t tear my thoughts away from this series and I eventually abandoned it to return to another Sebastian St Cyr book. Many of you know that I read multiple books at one time. I usually have a book that I read in the morning, lunch time, and bed time as well as an audio book that I listen to in the car…..the Sebastian St Cyr books have been my bed time reading and while I know I should be reading other books, I simply can’t put this series down!
