Review: Northanger Abbey: An Audible Original Drama by Anna Lea (Adaptor), Emma Thompson (Narrator)

Everyone keeps telling me that I need to try audiobooks. I have only really done one or two in the last year or so and I found them to be fun but at the same time it just seemed like it would take me forever to ‘read’ a book that way.

I am a speed reader so depending on the book, I can crank out a few every week but with an audio book I worry that I am stuck listening at the narrators own pace. Then I ended up with Becoming by Michelle Obama on my Audible account and even though it took me forever to ‘read’ the book, it was so relaxing to have someone reading to me.

I found that I enjoyed the whole audio book experience and that I could easily work it into my days. My kid is the worst napper on the planet so a lot of the time I have to sit with him or lay with him and if he sees me reading on my iPad he wants it to play games. But with audio books I can pop in my head phones and lay there until he falls asleep with the lights out and listen to a great story!

So long story short, I ended up loving Audible and started looking for something entertaining to listen to next. Enter this dramatization of Northanger Abbey. Continue reading “Review: Northanger Abbey: An Audible Original Drama by Anna Lea (Adaptor), Emma Thompson (Narrator)”

Review: Where the Forest Meets the Stars by Glendy Vanderah

When this book showed up in my inbox for review, I wasn’t entirely sure it was something I wanted to read. It sounded a little sad and on the heavy side so initially I set it to the side as a ‘probably wouldn’t review’ book.

But I wasn’t quite ready to write it off so I waited a few days to see if I might change my mind. The summary kept comping back into my mind and I kept thinking about the beautiful blue cover and interesting plot.

Eventually I decided on saying yes to this one, mostly because it sounded magical and elegant even if it was going to be a heavy, sad, tear jerker. Continue reading “Review: Where the Forest Meets the Stars by Glendy Vanderah”

Review: The Kingdom of Copper (The Daevabad Trilogy #2) by S.A. Chakraborty

This book was on my preorder list before I even finished the first book. The first book was unbelievable and stood out as a favorite thought out the year.

I loved the first book and couldn’t wait for the long year to pass before I was finally able to return to Daevabad. The world that the author created was rich, diverse, interesting, and above all the heroine, Nahri, was a force to be reckoned with.

In the days and weeks leading up to the release of this book, I thought briefly that I should go back and re-read the first book again, but decided against it since I was sure everything would come floating back to me without issue . Review: Murder Lo Mein (A Noodle Shop Mystery #3) by Vivien Chien

I discovered Lana Lee and the Noodle Shop Mystery series just over a year ago and frankly I paid yes to the first book because I loved the Chinese take out container on the front—-it made me hungry. I am seriously motivated by food, it’s embarrassing!

But, that cute little Chinese container book contained a rather interesting mystery and a hysterical leading lady in Lana Lee. I was eager for the next book and found it equally enjoyable.

So here we are with the third book and the fourth due out this summer. I was absolutely on board with reading the third book. How could I not love this series with food on the cover and creatively named titles based on Chinese food?! Personally, I don’t like Chinese food, but Ho Lee Noodle House makes me want to eat all the Chinese food! Continue reading “Review: Murder Lo Mein (A Noodle Shop Mystery #3) by Vivien Chien”

Review: The Last Year of the War by Susan Meissner

I have only read two novels by Susan Meissner but she is an author that I am constantly following. She has written a number of books with content that is right up my alley, so when this book came up for review, I jumped at another chance to read one of her lovely books!

The subject matter sounded interesting and unique which in of itself would appeal to me but I was also interested in how it was going to unfold. A lot of times war time books are often turned into historical fiction, heavy on the romance. This book sounded like it was going to be more about friendship than romance.

Frankly I wanted something ‘meatier’ and more than just another WWII novel. Now I love a good war time romance, but something like this sounded new and fresh so it was easily a ‘yes’ for me when the book came up for review so many months ago! Not to mention the cover art screams read me! Continue reading “Review: The Last Year of the War by Susan Meissner”
