Laura Purcell is an author who is on auto-buy for me. I read The Silent Companions last year and fell head over heels for her writing! I devoured The Silent Companions in days and lost sleep not just from staying up reading but from the creep factor as well! Such an incredible book.

I was thrilled to see that she had a new book coming out, and intact, I sent off to the UK to have this one delivered because I loved the cover so much and couldn’t wait for her latest novel! I have had my eye on this book for months and couldn’t wait to get my hands on it. It sounds delightfully creepy and gothic!

Take Two Review: The Pearl Sister (The Seven Sisters #4) by Lucinda Riley (Audible Edition)

As I have been making my way through this series again, I was wondering how I would feel about this one again. I read it for the first time through back in early 2018, so not that long ago. The other two books I originally read a few years ago and then the third one was a first read for me.

But this one I had read not that long ago, so the story is still relatively fresh in my mind, so I was eager to see how I felt about CeCe’s story this time around.

CeCe was my least favorite of the sisters and having freshly come off of Star’s story, I was acutely aware of how much I disliked CeCe….again. Riley does have a knack for making you forget why you didn’t like a particular sister though, so I was eager for that to happen again, because frankly I just never cared for CeCe in any of the books, but especially after the third one…..but I did give it 4.5 stars the first time around, so let’s see if that rating held up this time around. As many of you know, I have been a long time fan of Gail Carriger. She is a consistently accomplished writer with unique and interesting books that I always seem to find myself burning the midnight oil to read.

I am not a huge sci-fi fan. I don’t read a lot of it nor do I watch any sci fi. I mean I liked the idea of it, but it’s just not my genre at all. So when Carriger asked if I wanted to review this one…..I hesitated.

But I did agree to read it based on the fact that she has always seemed to win me over no matter what genre or theme she is writing about. But I was admittedly skeptical….I mean aliens? Space? Review: The Favorite Daughter by Patti Callahan Henry

I recently read Becoming Mrs Lewis by Patti Callahan (Henry) and I fell in love with that book and was eager to read some of her more contemporary books.

I had been pitched her book, The Bookshop at Water’s End, back in 2017 and passed at the time and now I am so sad that I did because I would have discovered this author long before now!

At any rate, I was thrilled to read this book when it came out and was looking forward to reading some of her contemporary fiction to see how it compared to her historical work. I knew that each book would be vastly different as they are different genres, but she’s an excellent writer and I know that good writing is good writing, and regardless of genre, that’s what stands out in a good book. Review: Montauk by Nicola Harrison

This book was on my radar ages ago! As I have mentioned a bunch of times before, I love debut novels and discovering new up and coming authors. This book stood out for me, not just because it was a debut, but also because it had a unique title.

I put this one on my calendar and was excited as the date to start reading it got closer and closer. I also loved the new over design. The original cover art really said ‘chick lit’ or ‘women’s fiction’ to me, but with this new redesign it says more historical fiction.

I love the simple grays of the background and then the stand out teal dress on the woman. It really was a beautiful cover redesign and much more visually eye catching than the original.
