When I first read the summary for this one, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. One the surface it sounded like it was setting up to be a psychological thriller, but the more that I think about it, I think it’s supposed to be more women’s fiction?
But I keep wanting it to be a thriller! I think I’ve been reading too many thrillers lately because I am seeing murder when there isn’t any! Tell me if I am wrong : “…as the families settle into their vacation routines, their best friends suddenly seem like annoying strangers, and even Jenna’s reliable husband, Peter, is sharing clandestine phone calls with someone–but who?”
Sounds like the setup for a psychological thriller, am I right? Well I am wrong, it’s more contempo fiction but this summary caught my eye even if I was wrong. When I saw that this was a ‘mafia romance’ I was instantly drawn to it. It sounded like something a little off the beaten track of romances. There are so many historical romances (duke, viscount, earl etc) and so many billionaire romances that sometimes it can be overwhelming when trying to find a new romance to read.
By all accounts this book was practically guaranteed a five star review. It had all the things I love in a Gothic tale…..the wild Cornish coast with foggy/misty mornings, a broken hero, a dark secret, an innocent but curious heroine, and so much atmosphere.
