Review: Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews

I’ve made it my mission this year to read more beach reads…..though not necessarily by choice.

In the past, I didn’t read a ton of beach reads, mostly because I didn’t really understand the appeal. If I am going to read, I want to read something with some depth. But then I had a kid and sometimes I just need easy, relaxing plots with a laid back vibe.

Plus after a read one of two beach reads, I discovered that they weren’t all full of  ‘flimsy’ plots that were predictable. In fact many were downright interesting!

When this book came up for review I saw that Mary Kay Andrews is kind of the unofficial beach read queen and I was interested to try out one of her books as I haven’t had the pleasure of reading anything by her before! Continue reading “Review: Sunset Beach by Mary Kay Andrews”

Review: One Summer in Paris by Sarah Morgan

This author is a new author to me and sadly I haven’t heard of any of her other books, and she has written an extensive amount of books!

So I was surprised that I hadn’t heard of her before. When this one came up for review, I almost passed on it. It sounded a little on the heavy side….divorce, heart break, loss…..it says it all right there in the summary and I just didn’t think I was ready for a novel with some heavy content.

But I also thought the cover was pretty and I’ve been on a huge women’s fiction kick lately so I thought why not give it a try. Her experience alone basically implies  a well written novel with substance, so I decided to read it and familiarize myself with her writing! Review: The Southern Side of Paradise (Peachtree Bluff #3) by Kristy Woodson Harvey

I discovered Kristy Woodson Harvey by chance…..or maybe she discovered me by chance—and I am so glad that we connected. When she approached me to review one of her books a three years ago, I was skeptical but yet oddly intrigued.

At that time I was just getting into women’s fiction and hadn’t really read a lot of ‘beach reads’ thinking that maybe it wasn’t my genre—at least not yet. But then here came this sweet blonde southern belle who wanted me to read one of her books and I was like well, why not?

What I discovered in the pages of the first book I read by her, Lies and Other Acts of Love, was so beautiful and well written that I knew I had found a new favorite author! Since then I have read all of her books except one, her first—Dear Carolina.

Her Peachtree Bluff series is probably her most well known and loved, and this book is the last installment, but hopefully not the last book that she writes! Continue reading “Review: The Southern Side of Paradise (Peachtree Bluff #3) by Kristy Woodson Harvey”

Review: The View from Alameda Island by Robyn Carr

I have only recently discovered Robyn Carr’s books and so far I have really enjoyed the nice little escape they provide from day to day life.

Carr has written a number of different standalone books and various series, and clearly has a huge following of devoted fans! So far I have stuck with the Sullivan’s Crossing series but I have been interested in checking out some of her other novels.

She has been hugely successful and I can clearly see how experienced she is in her writing. Her books are often well written, believable, with interesting characters so when this book came up for review—a standalone—I was eager to try something a little different from this established author! Review: The Key to Happily Ever After by Tif Marcelo

The first thing that attracted me to this book was the title and the bright cover art! I found the title intriguing and it instantly made me think about things that make my own ‘happily ever after’ so special.

I also thought the bright robin’s egg blue and yellow on the cover was so eye catching and I was instantly curious about this one and gladly agreed to read it!

The summary of the book also sounded interesting. I have been reading a lot of historical mysteries as well as some heavy women’s fiction and frankly I needed something that was going to be more along the lines of a ‘rom-com’ and that’s exactly that this book promised on the description!
