Review: A Dance with Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire #5) by George R. R. Martin

Not all men were meant to dance with dragons…but Daenerys Targaryen can!In the fifth book of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, we find ourselves across the Narrow Sea waiting to see if Daenerys Targaryen will ever make it back to Westeros and reclaim her birthright!

In A Feast for Crows, we met a lot of new characters along with a few familiar favorites. Since AFFC and ADWD were supposed to be one long book, I expected to see some overlap in the timeline and more of our fav characters in this book….and I was right, many of my fav characters were back!

I will try to make this review as spoiler free as possible, but it is difficult not to include references from the previous three books but I will do my best but consider yourself warned.

Discussion #4: Game of Thrones Reading Challenge 2012

Here is the fourth monthly meme/discussions for the Game of Thrones Reading Challenge. Yes I do realize this post is a bout 5 months late, but it’s been a busy reading year :). This month’s discussion is on A Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire #4)

As usual, I will post five questions for you all to mull over and I will answer one of the questions myself to start off the discussion. I also invite you to post your favorite quote or passage from the book. These are meant purely for fun and by no means required to participate in the challenges.

Make sure you link your responses or reviews back to your blog using the Mr Linky on the corresponding Game of Thrones Monthly Meme page or you can simply leave your response in the comments. The goal is to have some fun discussions and talk about the books.

I hope all you challenge participants have had some time to read third book in the series, but if not no worries we do have all year :) . Please remember, no matter where you are in the book or series, you are more than welcome to discuss the book right along with us :) .

Review: A Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire #4) by George R.R. Martin

The war of the five kings is more or less coming to an end in Westeros. One king seats the Iron Throne, but only just. His rule is in a precarious situation–one wrong move, one wrong decision, one wrong advisor….and all could be lost.

I will try to make this review as spoiler free as possible, but it is difficult not to include references from the previous three books but I will do my best but consider yourself warned.

In A Storm of Swords, so much happened. It was action packed from beginning to end, so as expected, A Feast for Crows, chronicles what happens in the aftermath of the battle.

Readers will quickly notice many of the typical POV characters are absent from this book, though a couple of favorites make an appearance. The POV characters in this book are: Cersei Lannister, Jaime Lannister, Arya Stark, Brienne of Tarth, Sansa Stark, Samwell TarlyAeron GreyjoyVictarion GreyjoyArianne Martell, and Asha Greyjoy.

Here is the third monthly meme/discussions for the Game of Thrones Reading Challenge. This month’s discussion is on A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire Book #3).

Review: A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire #3) by George R.R. Martin

Five kings. One throne. When you play the Game of Thrones you win….or you die. In George R. R. Martin’s epic high fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, plenty of characters meet their valiant demise, but there can only be one king who will sit the Iron Throne….but which king?

In the third book, A Storm of Swords, many different plot lines and POV’s finally begin to come to maturation but just when you think you have the series, a plot line, or character all figured out and summed up….Martin takes you in an unexpected direction.

For me, this was the best book in the series so far. The first book was really about getting to know the history and background of Westeros and the Seven Kingdoms while the second book was more about the war and strengthening the concepts of the first book but this third book was more about the characterization for me.

Martin is totally blowing my mind right now with this series! This book has been exciting and surprising till the very last word. Continue reading “Review: A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire #3) by George R.R. Martin”
