Special Feature and Excerpt: The Darkness We Hide (The Undertaker’s Daughter #3) by Debra Webb

During these strange times, I think many of us are looking for an escape more than ever before and for many of us, that escape comes from reading.

For me personally, I like to pick up a great romance, or a consuming mystery when things get a little stressful in real life and this book here sounds like it more than fits the suspenseful diversion that many of us might be looking for right now.

This is the third book in the series, I have not read the other books and I have read than some reviewers who jumped in with this one felt a little lost, but all commented that the author did a decent job catching readers up who might not have read the other books. At any rate today I have an excerpt for you all to see if this is something that catches your eye! Review: Darling Rose Gold by Stephanie Wrobel

This novel has been getting a lot of hype on social media. It’s Stephanie Wrobel’s debut novel and it sounds dark and addicting. Which is exactly why I wanted to review it.

I mean, I am not going to lie, the main character’s name was Rose Gold and that was made clear in the summary and all I could think of was ‘gag me!’

I honestly wasn’t sure I could get past the name situation but I was eager to read this one all the same because it had all the complicated mother/daughter issues mixed with some psychologically thrilling elements so I was willing ot at least try and look past the name ‘Rose Gold’. Review: The Woman in the Mirror by Rebecca James

By all accounts this book was practically guaranteed a five star review. It had all the things I love in a Gothic tale…..the wild Cornish coast with foggy/misty mornings, a broken hero, a dark secret, an innocent but curious heroine, and so much atmosphere.

It sounded like a modern Victoria Holt novel and I just couldn’t wait to crack it open! I have read only one other book by this author, Sweet Damages, but it was so long ago that I read it, that I can’t quite recall all the details but I remember that it was more of a modern Gothic tale.

This book mixes modern Gothic with classical Gothic in the duel storylines so I think it will appeal to a lot of readers, especially if you love the Gothic and ghosts! Continue reading “Review: The Woman in the Mirror by Rebecca James”

Review: Above the Bay of Angels by Rhys Bowen (Audible Edition)

I have been a long time fan of Rhys Bowen, especially her Royal Spyness series, but I also love many of her stand alone novels as well.

When I saw this one was coming out, I almost put it on preorder until I saw that it was going to be an Audible Escape option. As a subscriber to Audible Escape, that means I get to read any of the romances that are marked as Escape in their catalogue. This book was one of them.

I started it and was ready for it to be full of romance….I mean, it’s in the romance catalogue after all so I went into it expecting romance, but what I got was more of a romance with food. Continue reading “Review: Above the Bay of Angels by Rhys Bowen (Audible Edition)”

Special Feature: A Forgotten Murder (Medlar Mystery #3) by Jude Deveraux

I feel like every writer should strive to be as versatile and prolific as Jude Deveraux! She can write romance novels, historical fiction, mysteries, family sages/dramas. I mean she is so talented and is able to write so many genres without batting an eye lash!

This latest novel is out now and the third in her best selling romantic mystery series. While I couldn’t fit it in for review, it sounds so good that I picked up the first in the series and plan on reading it later this summer!

This series has been called cozy but also has romantic elements so either way I am open to checking it out but what really got my eye was the mention of an English manor house as part of the setting. I am a sucker for an English manor house so as you can all imagine, I am adding this one to my TBR right now!
