This book summary intrigued me to the core. Husband and wife turned serial killers? Um yes please!

How could I not be intrigued by the whole suburban couple meets Dexter and Mr and Mrs Smith situation described in the summary? I love shows like Weeds (suburban housewife turned drug dealer), and movies like Mr and Mrs Smith (suburban couple meets assassin spies) so this book was simply begging me to read it.

As a stay at home mom, there are days when I wonder what my neighbor are up to when they come home at 3 am. Were they just out for a night on the town or were they out having an affair or hiding a body in the wilderness?

I have an over active imagination and I am nosy AF, and this book totally appealed to someone like me who could relate to suburban life but also  listens to way too many true crime/murder podcasts. Continue reading “Review: My Lovely Wife by Samantha Downing” →

Review: The Storyteller’s Secret by Sejal Badani

One of the things that caught my eye with this book was the beautiful cover. I love the white flower against the red backdrop and the little gold/yellow details and accents.

I also loved that this book was set in India. There is something about India that seems so beautiful and exotic and I just loved that this book was going to incorporate that rich culture.

The summary sounded interesting but it was really the promise of something new and different culturally, that drew me into this story.

Nothing prepares Jaya, a New York journalist, for the heartbreak of her third miscarriage and the slow unraveling of her marriage in its wake. Take Two Review: A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire #3) by George R.R. Martin

Over the last couple of years, I have started re-reading the ASOIAF series. The first time I read all the books, I felt completely rushed and didn’t have a complete scope of everything that was happening.

And let’s be real….there is SO much going on in this series. So many layers of betrayals, history, lore, and the complexity of the characters and houses alone warrants at least a few re-readings.

This time through, I promised myself that I would savor each book and not feel rushed or like I was on a timeline to read each one.

This book is my absolute favorite in the series so I was happy to slow it down and leisurely read it rather than rushing to devour each chapter. And leisurely read I did. I started in back in Aug and didn’t finish until Nov. Granted I had a lot of other books on my review calendar and I got waylaid with the Pink Carnation series, but I finished this book all the same.

Review: The Patriot Threat (Cotton Malone #10) by Steve Berry

I’ve read a couple of the books in the Cotton Malone series and really really enjoyed them. Steve Berry has a special talent for merging politics, history, and conspiracy all together so well.

This time, our favorite ‘retired’ agent is recruited by his former boss to find a North Korean who has some top secret Treasury files.

Basically his novel begs the question “what if federal taxes were actually illegal”.

This case is anything but straight forward for Cotton and he finds himself globe trotting, trying to chase down leads and to recover the documents, not to mention wading through convoluted history.

The reader is treated to an array of historic facts (and some speculations), exotic locations, a new love interest for Cotton, and enough red herrings that keep the reader guessing until the end.

Winter is coming.

Well I guess technically winter is already here in Oregon’s as is it almost everywhere else in the Northern hemisphere….LOL :) .

Back by popular demand, I decided to host a very informal reading challenge for the A Song of Ice and Fire series again this year on my blog. The rules are simple, read the Song of Ice and Fire series…post comments, blog about it, review the series….totally up to you!

I will be changing the format slightly from last years style. Last year I just read and posted my reviews while commenting on other participants review, I also had a discussion forum where I just posted general questions. This year I will be sending out discussion questions to keep you all thinking about ASOIAF! Answer the questions, don’t answer the questions, it’s entirely up to you! You can be as active or non active in this challenge as you want to be. The discussion questions will be a new way to keep people actively interested, thinking about, and reading the series.
