I have been craving a Gothic romantic suspense novel for a while, I just haven’t been able to find something more contemporary than Victoria Holt. Now don’t get me wrong, I love Victoria Holt but I just wanted something a little more up-to-date.

I downloaded a sample of this one months ago but just never got around to starting it. So on a whim I decided to just read the sample and see how it was. I was completely hooked from the first couple of chapters!

Foggy marshes, a chance encounter on a misty night, a handsome stranger masquerading as someone else, spies, and a damsel in distress? This book had it all! I found myself wondering why in the world I didn’t start this one sooner!

I haven’t read anything by Anna Lee Huber, but I’ve had her book series, Lady Darby Mysteries, on my radar for years, but for some reason I just never have gotten around to reading it.

The description of this book caught my eye, especially since it’s marketed to fans of Victoria Holt and Mary Stewart….I can never resist a Gothic romantic/suspense novel!

Review: Midsummer Night (Lady Julia Grey #3.5) by Deanna Raybourn

So I rarely do anything by halves…..especially when it comes to reading! Though I tend to shy away from novellas because I always feel they are incomplete or just fluff but something compelled me to read this Lady Julia novella.

On one hand, it was simply fluff but on the other hand I wanted to read in detail about Lady Julia and Brisbane’s wedding so I spent the $1.99 and bought the novella!

This ‘mystery’ basically covers the days leading up to the wedding with a little case of hidden identity thrown in. Lady Julia wants nothing more than to marry her friend and sort of colleague, Nicholas Brisbane.

The wedding is happening at her father’s estate on Midsummer Night. All of English society is going to be there, even the gypsies have made camp on her father’s land hoping for an invitation to the nuptials.

Even a former villain makes an appearance hoping to score big with all the wealth staying at the Abbey.

Review: Silent on the Moor (Lady Julia Grey #3) by Deanna Raybourn

Yes people, I am reading yet another Deanna Raybourn book. Sometimes it just so happens that I find a great series and fall in love with the characters and simply must binge read all the books in the series!

Which is exactly what’s happened here….I’ve fallen in love with Lady Julia and I think this is my favorite in the series so far!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Wuthering Heights and anything set on ‘the moors’ so based on this book’s title, I knew I was going to love this one!

In this book, Lady Julia has decided once and for all to put a label on her relationship with her sort of partner, Nicholas Brisbane.

Throughout the previous books, there has been an electric relationship forming between the two and though they have a basic understanding, neither of them are ready to make any kind of grande gesture or define their relationship.

So as many of you might have noticed, I have been on a Deanna Raybourn book binge read!

I first discovered Raybourn’s books a few years ago when I read Night of a Thousand Stars, which I thought was pretty good as a stand alone book.

It wasn’t until last year that I rediscovered Raybourn and picked up the first Veronica Speedwell book and absolutely fell in love with the series.

Needless to say, I’ve been waiting a long time for this book to come out…..I literally couldn’t wait until January for it to come out, fortunately for me I got my hands on an ARC of the next book!

Review: Silent in the Sanctuary (Lady Julia Grey #2) by Deanna Raybourn

While I was waiting patiently for my induction to start (which basically took like 12 hours), I was able to finish reading the latest Lady Julia book! And what a perfect read to pass the time!

I’ve been a fan of Raybourn for quite some time, but the first Lady Julia book didn’t quite meet my expectations, however I liked her enough and love Raybourn’s ability to create romantic tension between characters that I thought I would give the second book a try.

Having been away in Italy with her brothers and their friends, Lady Julia has heard nothing from her sort of love interest Nicholas Brisbane. But she has had word from her father who demands that she and her brothers return from Italy and come home to his estate for Christmas.

Much to her surprise, the one man she had hoped to forget, is among her father’s houseguests…and he is not alone…..Brisbane is there with his finance!
