Special Feature: Losing You by Nicci French

Nicci French has written a number of standalone mysteries as well as the acclaimed Frida Klein series. I have read only one of French’s standalone books, The Lying Room, and only one of the Frida Klein books, I easily recognized strong writing mixed with a thought out mystery.

While I might not have fallen in love with the Freida Klein series, I enjoyed The Lying Room and was eager to see what the next standalone book held. The Lying Room wasn’t the best standalone by French, so I was excited to see what this one held!

Though I couldn’t fit this one into my review schedule for this winter, I plan on reading and reviewing it this summer so be watching for my review later on this year. As the book is out now though, I wanted to share a little about it with you guys so you could see what this experienced author has in store. Special Feature: The Empty Bed (The Burial Society #2) by Nina Sadowsky

The Burial Society was a book that was released last year that I tried to work into my review schedule but I just couldn’t swing it. I had no idea that it was going to be turned into a series but I am thrilled to see that this new release is a follow up the Sadowsky’s acclaimed novel!

Since I hadn’t read the first book in the series, I opted for a feature instead, as I feared that I might be a little lost in the series. I had seen a few reviews stating that it could be read as a standalone but that reading it as a series made more sense and allowed the reader to connect with the characters more.

So that’s what ultimately swayed my opinion to do a feature on this one instead. Though this series sounds like it’s a thrilling ride to be sure! If you love modern thrillers then this will likely be a book you need on your radar as your winter reading draws to an end! It is out tomorrow so be sure to check it out! Review: Many Rivers to Cross (Inspector Banks #26) by Peter Robinson

This series has obviously been a long standing with. With 26 books in the series, it’s clear that people love Inspector Banks. I was thrilled to review this one when I was approached, but at the same time I was worried that being 26 books in, that I would be lost in the larger story.

But if I have learned one thing about well known, longstanding thriller/mystery series, it’s that the authors usually try to keep things simple or at least explain the back story more for a new audience.

After some debate, I decided to give this one a try and see how it went. I obviously wasn’t going to go back and read 25 books just to get to this one so I had to trust that at least a large chunk of the story would focus on the mystery and being a police procedural, that is indeed what should have happened. Special Feature: The Poison Garden by Alex Marwood

There is just something about thrillers that so many of us find irresistible. In recent years though, the sub genre of psychological thriller has emerged as a major player within the thriller genre.

I know that many of you (myself included) like a mind twisting mystery that defies logic. This latest release from award winning author Alex Marwood taps into that sub genre with a vengeance with her latest release, The Poison Garden.

This book happened to be about a cult and the cult mentality that lures people in and the consequences of life within a cult. When I first heard this summary, I was super excited to check this one out and I hope that all of you will too. It’s out now and it’s one that you don’t want to miss!
