Special Feature: Losing You by Nicci French

Nicci French has written a number of standalone mysteries as well as the acclaimed Frida Klein series. I have read only one of French’s standalone books, The Lying Room, and only one of the Frida Klein books, I easily recognized strong writing mixed with a thought out mystery.

While I might not have fallen in love with the Freida Klein series, I enjoyed The Lying Room and was eager to see what the next standalone book held. The Lying Room wasn’t the best standalone by French, so I was excited to see what this one held!

Though I couldn’t fit this one into my review schedule for this winter, I plan on reading and reviewing it this summer so be watching for my review later on this year. As the book is out now though, I wanted to share a little about it with you guys so you could see what this experienced author has in store. Review: Cartier’s Hope by M.J. Rose

I feel like I timed this read just right. I had just finished reading a Sebastian St Cyr mystery that featured the Hope Diamond or the French Blue and I was eager to read this one because it too featured the diamond I had been reading about.

I have been a fan of M. J. Rose for a long time as well and it’s been a long time since I’ve read a book by her and as soon as I dove into this one, I remembered how much I loved her books and I can’t believe it’s been so long since I read one!

If you have any interest in the gemstone/diamond industry this book has lots of little details that will excite you and draw you in…..I confess I spent a lot of time on the internet lost in research of the Hope Diamond while I was reading this book and I to me that’s a hallmark of a fabulous book! Special Feature: The Empty Bed (The Burial Society #2) by Nina Sadowsky

The Burial Society was a book that was released last year that I tried to work into my review schedule but I just couldn’t swing it. I had no idea that it was going to be turned into a series but I am thrilled to see that this new release is a follow up the Sadowsky’s acclaimed novel!

Since I hadn’t read the first book in the series, I opted for a feature instead, as I feared that I might be a little lost in the series. I had seen a few reviews stating that it could be read as a standalone but that reading it as a series made more sense and allowed the reader to connect with the characters more.

So that’s what ultimately swayed my opinion to do a feature on this one instead. Though this series sounds like it’s a thrilling ride to be sure! If you love modern thrillers then this will likely be a book you need on your radar as your winter reading draws to an end! It is out tomorrow so be sure to check it out! Review: When Maidens Mourn (Sebastian St. Cyr #7) by C.S. Harris

I have decided that I need to start writing my reviews on the Sebastian St Cyr books immediately after finishing them now, because as soon as I put one down, I pick up the next one. Then on days like today when I am going back to write my reviews, I realize that I am on book 9 and have to think back to two books before.

What I am trying to say is, the mysteries are running together for me and I am not even mad about it! So let me try and think back to this book which I only finished a couple of days ago, but it seems like a lifetime ago now.

This series has really held up for me. It’s not easy to binge read a series as lengthy as this one but I am doing it and not even apologizing. I love this series and while some books might be slightly formulaic, it’s the evolution of Sebastian’s character that stands the test of time for me.
